The Adarsh Mahila Mahavidyalaya is a leading Women’s College in Haryana. This College was founded with a mission to impart quality education to women. The founder President of this college Sh. B.D. Gupta Ji had the great vision of women education along with a safe, peaceful and green environment. On his footstep, the Management of this college still tries to provide a green environment not only in the college campus but in the society as well. The whole team of this college, the management, Principal, Staff and students try to create such an environment which promotes energy conservation and the dependency on renewable resources and sustainable energy. Every initiative of Green campus starts with a motto of developing a culture of eco-friendly practices to make the campus sustainable and environment friendly. In this direction the main aim of the college is to make the campus plastic free, to conserve energy, minimize waste, protection of biodiversity, self sustainability in the regions of power and above all the cleanliness of air and water. The institution believes that this is a collective responsibility of the students, the staff and the community to recognize our heritage and the needs of greenery on this planet. The students and staff of the college are aware of the requirements for making the campus green and eco-friendly. The campus has a playground, lawns, Canteen, Cycle stand, hostels, hall and gardens along with the concrete buildings inside it. Inside the campus, the CFL and LED bulbs are used as alternate sources of energy and as the energy conservation measures. For the solid waste management, college adopts the formation of vermicompost from waste leaves, fruits and vegetable peelings of hostel and canteen waste. The whole solid waste of the canteen and compost is prepared from it. Likewise the liquid waste is managed through sewage water treatment and the waste water of water coolers is given to plants the bio compost so prepared is then utilized in the plants of college. In addition to its students had been given additional knowledge through debates, Group discussions, lectures, webinars and the competitions for awareness. The college has its own Rainwater harvesting system in it. The college is having its own green code conduct which keeps the students aware regarding green campus initiatives, responsibility and duty of them. There is a ban on the use of plastic in the campus. The canteen is not using the plastic utensils rather it uses the steel crockery or paper cups. The anti tobacco cell of the college spreads awareness regarding drug abuses and the college is tobacco free. It also promotes the use of bicycles and battery operated vehicles to avoid pollution for better air quality in the premises. In the college premises proper landscaping of trees and plants can be seen. The IQAC of the college conducts Green audit, water audit, energy audit, vehicle audit, laboratory audit and environment audit. Additionally it also organizes some surveys on green environment, sound pollution and on health. College has a Green club, Nature interpretation cell and Anti-tobacco cell which promote environmental promotion activities. In this direction some other Departments like Zoology Department organized webinar on wildlife, poster making competition on “World’s Nature Conservation Day” by Botany Department, water landscaping and painting competition by Fine Arts Department, Webinar on “Green Chemistry” and webinar on “Catch the Rain” by Nature interpretation cell. The NSS volunteers were deployed in the Community to spread awareness of sanitation and pollution issues, and organized a Rally on “Remove plastic from our environment”. Students and staff had signed an MOU with an NGO named “Stand with Nature”. In this direction they organized lectures, door to door campaign, tree plantation, No Vehicle Day celebration and Rallies on Conservation of Nature. All these efforts are for making the students aware of a better and green future ahead in which the institution is performing its duty in a better way.
